Most of the world is probably asleep right now.
The emails are unanswered. The notifications have slowed. Most conversations have ended. The to-do list will have to wait until tomorrow.
But God is still awake.
There’s something deeply comforting to me about that.
Some of our most honest conversations with the Lord don’t happen in crowded sanctuaries or during perfectly planned morning devotions. They happen when the house is quiet, the lights have gone out, and we’re finally still enough to hear Him. When the distractions fade, our hearts often become a little more honest.
Maybe tonight you’re carrying a burden you’ve hidden all day. Maybe you’re replaying conversations, worrying about tomorrow, or wondering why God seems silent. Maybe today was incredibly productive or perhaps you feel like you wasted it.
None of that changes who our God is.
He isn’t limited by your schedule. He doesn’t stop working because the clock strikes midnight. He doesn’t ignore prayers whispered through tired eyes. He doesn’t love you less because your Bible wasn’t opened until the end of the day.
While you lie awake wondering how everything will work out, the God who created the stars is still faithfully holding the universe together. He’s still drawing people to Himself. He’s still answering prayers. He’s still writing stories of redemption. He’s still working in ways you cannot yet see.
Scripture reminds us:
“Indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.” (Psalm 121:4)
The same God who watched over David in the wilderness, Daniel in the lions’ den, and Paul in a prison cell is watching over you tonight. So be still. Calm your anxious soul.
Before you close your eyes tonight, don’t just replay the day, truly surrender it. Thank Jesus for the blessings you noticed, trust Him with the burdens you didn’t solve, and rest knowing that while you sleep, your Father is still awake.
You may need rest.
He never does.
