A DEAD MAN WALKING (BLOGMAS DAY SIX 2025)

(Post by: Colton)

Just another December 6th for you? Well, for us here at The Few, today is where this little ministry was set into motion. Today, twenty-six years ago, in a little hotel room in Florence, Kentucky, Scott gave his life to Jesus.

That very moment started a domino effect that would begin The Few, change my life, and countless others for eternity! HAPPY BIRTHDAY SCOTT!!!

When Scott shares his testimony of giving his life to Jesus, he talks about a photo of him and Michelle at a graduation dinner. When he describes the state he was in when the photo was taken, he always uses the phrase, “A Dead Man Walking.” I’ve always loved that phrase.

It’s not a heartwarming phrase by any means. But the meaning behind it is phenomenal.

It originated in prisons, when a man was condemned to death. The prisoner would “walk the mile,” and the other prisoners would yell, “Dead man walking!” as the man was led to his execution.

I believe I was on that “mile” long walk in my BC (before Christ) days. So deep in my own sin, constantly walking towards my own death.

I was on the way to my own execution to be completely separated, for eternity, from the Father. We’ve all been there, some of you may be on that mile long walk at this very moment. Perhaps you are looking and searching for another route.

I’m here to tell you that only Jesus can rescue you. Only Jesus can make you a living man. This Christmas season is a time of celebration and joy. For a Savior has come to make us all alive again.

Scott has accepted Jesus, and I praise the Lord for that because if it wasn’t for Scott being a dead man walking and dying to himself and accepting Jesus, my life would be very different.

I’d be a dead man walking; walking a mile straight to Hell.

What I’m getting at is we all have a walk to take, and it will either be a living one or a dying one.

Each day, we get to choose how we walk this Jesus thing out. There’s no such thing as a different walk with Jesus. It’s either you’re in or you’re out. You either believe it or you don’t.

For those of us who are saved, we have a calling to help rescue others from the walk down the path of death.

We are to lead others to Jesus, just as Scott has led me and countless others to Jesus.

I’m asking you whether or not you will stand strong and look different in this world of chaos.

Will you continue to walk down the path of death? Or will you get off of it and change your life and other’s lives along the way?

For Scott’s spiritual birthday, we gifted him a journal that a guy from our men’s group engraved, and then we had everyone who comes to the men’s group and The Few Bible Study sign it.

About 18 people signed it. I wish I could get everyone’s signature that Scott has impacted in the last 26 years. I’d probably have to get another journal because of how quickly it would fill up.

He’s had the enormous opportunity to help change and lead people to Jesus. There are countless stories, all because he decided to no longer walk as a dead man.

Enough of this, “go along to get along” Christianity. That’s pathetic.

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18)
