(Guest Post by: Colton – Blogmas Day Twenty-Two 2023)
Picture this with me…
Jesus is there before you, hanging dead on the cross. You can see that He is wounded physically, all the cuts, bruises, blood, and the nails. He’s not that far off the ground, and if you wanted, you could walk right up and touch Him. His feet are hanging there, lifeless. You stand there, confused and shocked at what just took place. Your heart starts pounding, eyes begin to water, and all you want to do is collapse.
Instead, you decide to turn and walk away.
We all have a tendency to walk away from Jesus. It is our natural inclination to say, “I’m good Jesus, I’ll take it from here.” I believe, that as men, we have a greater tendency to do this. However, truly collapsing at Jesus’ feet and giving your life to Him is the true meaning behind being “a man”.
On January 22nd, 2023, my mom, my dad, and I were standing in our dining room discussing what the next steps would be regarding my legal issues. We were crying, scared, and confused. Then my Dad began to cry.
He began to weep uncontrollably, to the point where he just collapsed to his knees and pleaded with Jesus to come into his heart. That night my dad, a man that for my entire life, had been a pretty hard man, collapsed at the feet of Jesus and committed his life to Him. It’s a powerful story, and I’m so thankful I get to walk this out with him. Today is my dad’s 11-month anniversary of being saved!!
Sometimes it’s hard to know what to do and when to do it. However, there comes a point in every person’s life when they truly have a decision to make. To either follow Jesus or to follow Satan.
When my father and I got saved, it felt as if Jesus was physically in the room, asking us if we wanted to follow Him. You may not have that same exact experience, but we are all faced with this choice daily.
Who will we follow?
I recently watched a movie called “Nefarious”, and it’s about a man on death row who is possessed by a demon. A psychiatrist has to do an evaluation to determine whether he is sane in order to be put to death, or if he is insane, and therefore deemed not able to be executed. As the psychiatrist is talking to the possessed man, the demon proceeds to tell the doctor that the way he came to possess the man was not just by the man making one single decision to allow the demon in. But instead, by a series of “yeses” the man had made throughout his life.
For example, drugs, alcohol, and pornography. We all have daily decisions to make that will determine whether we fall at the feet of Jesus or fall into sin.
The most important decision we have to make is to first fall at the feet of Jesus and give our lives to Him. To know and accept that He came down to earth, took on flesh, was beaten and killed, yet was raised from death and is now sitting at the right hand of the Father!
“For our present troubles are quite small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us an immeasurably great glory that will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see right now; rather, we look forward to what we have not yet seen. For the troubles we see will soon be over, but the joys to come will last forever.” (2 Corinthians 4:17-18)
The greatest gift you could choose to receive this Christmas is the greatest gift of all! ETERNAL SALVATION!!
