I feel as if I have been in the ring with the enemy over the past month or so, taking a few hard hits quite often.
About a week into experiencing this intense spiritual warfare, I realized I didn’t have a battle plan. Sure, I was throwing a few punches back every now and then, so the enemy knew I was still in the ring, but in my own heart and mind, my goal wasn’t to win.
The goal was merely to survive.
Here’s the kicker, though… I was losing.
After I came to this realization, I was having a conversation with a close friend later that day, and I said, “I’m not going to let the enemy win.”
It was important for me to shift my mindset from merely surviving to truly winning, but what really made all the difference was what the Lord showed me next.
He showed me, while having that conversation, that my duty as a Christian was to not let the enemy win today.
I would go so far as to say that many of us don’t even realize it is our job to beat back the darkness in our little corners of the world this very day. No wonder we’re losing.
I was losing because I didn’t fully embrace that the Lord made me for day-to-day combat with the enemy.
Maybe I’m just preaching to myself today, and if I am, so be it. But I truly believe this is where many Christians find themselves today. We feel the overwhelming amount of warfare closing in around us and we feel every hit deeply, but we’re losing because we have yet to take hold of the power and victory Jesus has given us over the enemy.
Ephesians 5:15-17 says, “Pay careful attention, then, to how you live — not as unwise people but as wise – making the most of the time, because the days are evil. So don’t be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.”
What if the Lord’s will is for us to beat back the enemy today? To remind him that our King has won, and has enabled us to win the war today?
C. S. Lewis once said, “Enemy occupied territory – that is what this world is. Christianity is the story of how the rightful King has landed, and is calling us all to take part in a great campaign of sabotage.”
Sometimes we allow ourselves to get so overwhelmed by the amount of spiritual warfare we are experiencing that we lose sight of the fact that our goal should simply be to not let the enemy win today.
1 Corinthians 16:13 says, “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.”
You are a son or daughter of the most high God. A mighty warrior for the sake of the Kingdom.
Now get out there and don’t you dare let the enemy win today.
SO, WHAT IS YOUR RESPONSE?
= How can you win today?
= Do you realize that Jesus has already given you the victory?
= What are you going to do differently?
