NEVERTHELESS

(Post by: Lilly Hobbs)

I’m not sure about y’all, but Thanksgiving feels a bit more solemn this year. There’s a heaviness in the air. Perhaps you have spent most of this year being ungrateful, as I know many of us have. There hasn’t been a single day this year that I haven’t heard someone say that this year has just been the worst ever.

Can any of us honestly say that we have lived each day of 2020 with a thankful attitude and perspective?

H.U. Westermayer once said, “The Pilgrims made seven times more graves than huts. No Americans have been more impoverished than these who, nevertheless, set aside a day of thanksgiving.”

Christians have lived this year of their lives with the mindset that they deserve sympathy because this year hasn’t gone as they might have expected. May I remind the Church today that we deserve absolutely nothing?

God has saved our sinful souls from eternal damnation and we feel as if we are in need of sympathy? I think today, Thanksgiving 2020, needs to be a day that we repent for not being grateful.

May we live as the Pilgrims did, giving thanks and pouring out our hearts before the Lord, nevertheless. May we be grateful that we are not digging seven times more graves than huts. I choose this day to be thankful, nevertheless. Will you join me?

“My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast! I will sing and make melody! Awake, my glory! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn! I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. For your steadfast love is great to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!” Psalm 57:7-11 (Note: David wrote this while in the Cave of Adullam, running for his life from King Saul)

“Thanksgiving is possible only for those who take time to remember; no one can give thanks who has a short memory.”  -Unknown

SO WHAT IS YOUR RESPONSE?

  1. I can completely agree with you on this one. This is year has been so eventful from good things to upsetting things but one thing we can always be thankful about it that we have the Lord. He has a plan for everything that has happened this year and it will only continue. So let’s be grateful for everything and praise his name for the Lord is amazing and he knows exactly what he is doing!

  2. Love this! When we step back and look at the whole picture, we have a LOT to be thankful and grateful for. We all are so very blessed and fortunate to have all of the modern conveniences that we have today. It’s so easy to get caught up in the little things that bother us, and what we don’t like. Yes, 2020 has been a wild year, but NEVERTHELESS, let’s be thankful! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everybody!
